What it is
The Fisherman system expands fishing into a rewarding progression path. When you fish with a Prism fishing rod (crafted and upgraded at the Tool Forge), vanilla water yields custom encounters, sized trophy fish, and valuable loot.
Regular vanilla fishing rods still catch standard vanilla items. Custom fishing requires a Prism rod.
Catch distribution
Every successful cast with a Prism fishing rod rolls one of three equal categories:
- 33% Pokémon encounter
- 33% Special Fish
- 33% Vanilla and custom loot
Special Fish & Fisherman NPCs
Special Fish are trophy catches with recorded weights (in pounds) and custom rarity tiers:
- Species: Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish, and Pufferfish, including rare variations like River Cod, Golden Cod, and King Salmon.
- Selling: Right-click any Fisherman NPC in the world to open the Sell Fish shop GUI.
- Payouts:
- Regular fish: Cod $80, Salmon $100, Tropical Fish $120, Pufferfish $150.
- Special fish base payouts: Special Cod $100, River Cod $120, Golden Cod $140, Special Salmon $120, King Salmon $180, Special Tropical $150, Special Pufferfish $200. Heavier weights yield higher payouts.
Hooked Pokémon & Battles
When a Pokémon takes the bait:
- Non-battle encounters: Wild Pokémon (such as Magikarp, starters, or type-pool species) you can catch directly.
- Battle encounters: Powerful evolved Pokémon (such as Gyarados, Persian, Charizard, or Seaking) that trigger a battle when reeled in. Winning or capturing these awards cash payouts and bonus items like diamonds.
- Encounter protection: Hooked Pokémon are automatically locked to you for 30 minutes, preventing other players from interfering with or stealing your catch.
Baits and Type Tomes
Upgrading your Prism fishing rod at the Tool Forge with element tomes acts as bait, targeting specific Pokémon encounter pools:
- Inferno: Fire-type species (Charmander, Vulpix, Cyndaquil, Torchic, etc.)
- Aqua: Water-type species (Goldeen, Horsea, Carvanha, Lotad, etc.)
- Flora: Grass-type species (Oddish, Hoppip, Shroomish, Petilil, etc.)
- Spark: Electric-type species (Pikachu, Voltorb, Elekid, Shinx, etc.)
- Frost: Ice-type species (Seel, Shellder, Snorunt, Spheal, etc.)
- Normal: Normal-type species (Meowth, Aipom, Teddiursa, Minccino, etc.)
Rod perks & Focus synergy
- Luminous Scale: A Prism rod tome that grants 3× shiny odds on hooked Pokémon.
- Focus Fishing: Toggle the
fishingFocus buff with/focus toggle fishing. It consumes 25 Focus to grant an additional 2.0× shiny multiplier. - Ignition: Automatically converts common junk catches into iron ingots, gold nuggets, gold ingots, emeralds, or lapis.
- Open Water & Calm Waters: Reduces junk and improves catch rates in open waters.
- Boost Zones: Special visual particle rings located in designated lakes and oceans that grant boosted catch rates while fishing within them.
Tips
- Check spawn or fishing docks for the nearest Fisherman NPC to turn in your haul.
- Stack Luminous Scale with Focus Fishing when hunting for wild water shinies.
